उस सौभ के स्वामी का वध करने के लिए मैं उसे यहाँ-वहाँ खोजता रहा, और अन्त में उसे समुद्र के मध्य एक द्वीप में पाया। तब हे राजन्, समुद्र से प्राप्त अपना पाञ्चजन्य शङ्ख बजाकर और शाल्व को युद्ध के लिए ललकारते हुए मैं रणभूमि में खड़ा हो गया। उसी क्षण अनेक दानवों से मेरा सामना हुआ, किन्तु उन सबको मैंने परास्त कर भूमि पर गिरा दिया। हे महाबाहो, इसी कारण मैं उस समय तुम्हारे पास नहीं आ सका। हस्तिनापुर में हुए उस कपटपूर्ण द्यूत का समाचार सुनते ही मैं यहाँ चला आया, क्योंकि संकट में पड़े तुम सबसे मिलने की मेरी तीव्र अभिलाषा थी।
