हे पिताश्री! यद्यपि राजा युधिष्ठिर ने उन्हें रोका, तथापि भीमसेन, वहाँ उपस्थित स्त्रियाँ और अन्य राजागण — जो श्रीकृष्ण की माया से प्रेरित थे — दुर्योधन की उस दुर्दशा को देखकर ठहाके लगाकर हँस पड़े। दुर्योधन अत्यन्त लज्जित हो गया। उसने अपना मुख नीचे कर लिया, भीतर ही भीतर क्रोध की अग्नि में जलता रहा और उस समय अपने भावों को छिपाते हुए वह अपनी राजधानी हस्तिनापुर को लौट गया। तब उस सभा में उपस्थित सज्जनों के मुख से "हाय! हाय!" की ध्वनि उठी और निर्वैर राजा युधिष्ठिर भी उस क्षण विचारमग्न-से हो गए। तब वे स्वयं भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण, जो पृथ्वी के भारी बोझ को हरने की इच्छा रखते थे और जिनकी माया के संकेत से दुर्योधन इतनी भूलों का शिकार हुआ था, वे भी मौन रहे। हे राजन्! तुमने राजसूय यज्ञ के अवसर पर दुर्योधन की दुष्टता के विषय में जो प्रश्न किया था, उसका सम्पूर्ण वृत्तान्त मैंने तुम्हें सुना दिया।
English Summary
O Sire! though prevented to do so by king Judhisthira, yet Bhimasena, the ladies, and other kings encouraged as they were by Krishna in so doing, laughed aloud seeing Duryodhana in such a plight. Being greatly ashamed and cast ing down his countenance, and burning within with rage and concealing his emotions at that time, king Duryodhana then went back to the city of Hastinapur, his capital. Then the pious ones in that assembly exclaimed “alas! alas!" and the foeless king Yudhisthira seemed to be absent-minded. Then that Lord Sri Krishna who was desirous of removing the heavy burden of the earth, and through whose illusory will Duryodhana had become the victim of so many mistakes, also kept silent. O king! now I have related unto thee, everything re- garding the question thou dist ask of me about the wicked- ness of Duryodhana during the celebration of the Rajasuya sacrifice (31-—40)
