वैशम्पायन ने कहा — (आगे) राजसभा के प्रमुख अधिकारी ने उन दूतों से सब कुछ सुनकर अपना सोने से सजा हुआ विशाल नगाड़ा बजाया, जिसकी ध्वनि दूर-दूर तक गूँज उठी और सभी को युद्ध के लिए आह्वान किया। उस ध्वनि से जागृत होकर भोज, वृष्णि और अन्धक वंश के वीर चारों दिशाओं से उमड़ पड़े। जो भोजन कर रहे थे वे थाली छोड़कर उठ आए, और जो पान कर रहे थे वे पात्र रखकर चले आए। वृष्णि और अन्धक कुलों के वे नरश्रेष्ठ, वे महान् योद्धा, उत्तम आसनों से आच्छादित, रत्नों और मूँगों से विचित्र, प्रज्वलित अग्नि के समान दीप्तिमान सहस्रों स्वर्णसिंहासनों पर विराजमान हुए। वे उन सिंहासनों पर ऐसे बैठे जैसे प्रज्वलित अग्नियाँ ईंधन पाकर और भी प्रदीप्त हो उठती हैं।

Stirred up by that sound, the Bhoja, the Vrishnis. and the Andhakas began to pour in from all sides. Those that were eating left their food, and those that were drinking left their drink.
