सञ्जय ने कहा — इस प्रकार उन पृथ्वीपतियों के बीच वह महासंग्राम प्रचण्ड रूप से चलता रहा, जब अर्जुन, कर्ण और पाण्डुपुत्र भीमसेन क्रोध से भर उठे। द्रोणपुत्र तथा अन्य महारथियों को परास्त करके अर्जुन ने, हे राजन्, वासुदेव से कहा — हे महाबाहु कृष्ण, देखो, पाण्डव सेना रणभूमि से भाग रही है। देखो, कर्ण इस युद्ध में हमारे महारथियों का संहार कर रहा है। हे दाशरथि, मुझे धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर कहीं दिखाई नहीं दे रहे। हे योद्धाओं में श्रेष्ठ, धर्मपुत्र की ध्वजा भी दृष्टिगोचर नहीं हो रही। हे जनार्दन, दिन का तीसरा प्रहर अभी शेष है। धार्तराष्ट्रों में से कोई भी मुझसे युद्ध करने नहीं आ रहा। अतः मेरे मन को जो प्रिय है, वह करने के लिए उस स्थान पर चलो जहाँ युधिष्ठिर हैं। युद्ध में धर्मपुत्र को अपने अनुजों सहित कुशलपूर्वक देखकर मैं पुनः शत्रुओं से युद्ध करूँगा, हे वृष्णिकुलश्रेष्ठ। विभत्सु के इन वचनों को सुनकर हरि ने उस रथ को शीघ्र उस स्थान की ओर बढ़ाया जहाँ राजा युधिष्ठिर, महाबली शृञ्जय महारथियों के साथ, मृत्यु को ही लक्ष्य मानकर शत्रुओं से युद्ध कर रहे थे। उस महासंहार के मध्य गोविन्द ने रणभूमि का दृश्य देखकर सव्यसाचिन से कहा — हे पार्थ, देखो, दुर्योधन के लिए इस धरती पर क्षत्रियों का यह संहार कितना भयंकर और विशाल है, हे भारत। हे भारत, देखो उन वीरगति को प्राप्त योद्धाओं के स्वर्णजटित धनुष, और उनके कन्धों से गिरे हुए बहुमूल्य तरकश। देखो वे सुवर्णपंखों से युक्त सीधे बाण, और वे तेल से धुले हुए शर जो केंचुली उतारे हुए सर्पों के समान दिख रहे हैं। हे भारत, देखो वे सुवर्णभूषित तलवारें जिनके मूठ हाथीदाँत के हैं, और वे सोने से मण्डित ढालें जो अपने स्थान से विचलित हो गई हैं।
English Summary
San jay a said, "Thus raged that great battle between those lords of Earth when Arjuna and Kama and Bhimasena, the son of Pandu became angry. Having vanquished the son of Drona, and other great car-warriors, Arjuna, O king, addressing Vasudeva, said, 'Behold, O Krishna of mighty arms, the Pandava army is flying away. Behold, Kama is slaying our great car-warriors in this battle. I do not, O thou of Dasaratha's race, see king Yudhishthira the just. Nor is the standard of Dharma's son, O foremost of warriors, visible. The third part of the day still remaineth, O Janardana. No one amongst the Dhartarashtras cometh against me for fight. For doing, there .ore, what is agreeable to me, proceed to the spot where Yudhishthira is. Beholding Dharma's son safe and sound with his younger brothers in battle, I will again fight with the foe, O thou of Vrishni's race.' At these words of Vibhatsu, Hari (Krishna) quickly proceeded on that car to that spot where king Yudhishthira, along with the mighty Srmjaya car-warriors of great strength, were fighting with the foe, making death their goal. During the progress of that great carnage, Govinda, beholding the field of battle, addressed Savyasachin, saying, 'Behold, O Partha, how great and awful is this carnage, O Bharata, of Kshatriyas on Earth for the sake of Duryodhana. Behold, O Bharata, the gold-backed bows of slain warriors, as also their costly quivers displaced from their shoulders. Behold those straight shafts equipt with wings of gold, and those cloth- yard arrows washed with oil and looking like snakes freed from their sloughs. Behold, O Bharata, those scimitars, decked with gold, and having ivory handles, and those displaced shields embossed with gold.
