तब युद्ध में वीर कृप ने माद्री के पुत्र उस महारथी को शीघ्र ही सत्तर सुवर्णभूषित बाणों से बेध दिया। किन्तु माद्री के पुत्र सहदेव ने अपने बाणों से कृप का धनुष काट दिया। धनुष काटकर सहदेव ने कृप को नौ बाणों से बींध डाला। तब कृप ने उस युद्ध में एक और महाशक्तिशाली धनुष उठाया और भीष्म के प्राणों की रक्षा की अभिलाषा से क्रोध में भरकर प्रसन्नतापूर्वक माद्री के पुत्र को दस बाणों से बेध दिया। तब पाण्डु के पुत्र ने भी भीष्म की मृत्यु की अभिलाषा से क्रोधित होकर उस क्रुद्ध कृप की छाती में अनेक बाणों से प्रहार किया। और तब वहाँ एक भीषण संग्राम आरम्भ हुआ।
English Summary
And Kripa, brave in battle, quickly struck that mighty car-warrior, viz,, the son of Madri, with seventy shafts decked with gold. The son of Madri, however, cut Kripa's bow in twain by means of his shafts. And cutting off his bow, Sahadeva then pierced Kripa with nine arrows. Taking up then, in that battle, another bow capable of bearing a great strain Kripa, excited with rage and desirous of Bhishma's life, cheerfully struck Madri's son in that battle with ten shafts.
