धर्म ने कहा — 'मैं दैत्यों और दानवों को बाँधकर वरुण को सौंप देता हूँ।' इस प्रकार आदेश पाकर, परमेष्ठिन् की आज्ञा से धर्म ने दैत्यों और दानवों को बाँधकर वरुण को सौंप दिया। तब जल के स्वामी वरुण ने उन दानवों को धर्म के पाश से तथा अपने पाश से भी बाँधकर सदा सावधानी से रक्षा करते हुए उन्हें समुद्र की गहराइयों में बन्दी बनाकर रखा। उसी प्रकार दुर्योधन, कर्ण, सुबल-पुत्र शकुनि और दुःशासन को बाँधकर पाण्डवों को सौंप दो। एक कुल के लिए एक व्यक्ति का बलिदान किया जा सकता है। एक ग्राम के लिए एक कुल का बलिदान किया जा सकता है। एक प्रान्त के लिए एक ग्राम का बलिदान किया जा सकता है। और अन्त में, अपनी रक्षा के लिए सम्पूर्ण पृथ्वी का भी त्याग किया जा सकता है। हे राजन्, दुर्योधन को दृढ़ता से बाँधो और पाण्डवों के साथ सन्धि करो। हे क्षत्रियों में श्रेष्ठ, तुम्हारे कारण समस्त क्षत्रिय कुल का संहार न हो।
English Summary
Dharma, saying 'Binding last, I the Daityas and the Dauavas, make them over to; Varuna.1— Thus addressed, Dharma, at the command of Parameshthin, binding the Daityas and the Danavas, made them over to Varuna. And Varuna, the Lord of the waters, having bound those Danavas, with Dharuia's noose, as also with his own, keepeth them 258 MAHABHABATA within the depths of the ocean, always guarding them carefully. Binding in the same way Duryodhana and Kama and Sakuni, the son of Suval \t and Dussasana. make them over to the Pandava?. For the sake of a familily, an individual may be sacrificed. For a village, a family may be sacrificed. For the sake of a province, a village may be sacrificed. And lastly, for the sake of one's self, the whole earth may be sacrificed. O monarch, binding Duryodhana fast, make peace with the Pandavas. O bull among Kshatriyas, let not the whole Kshatriya race be slaughtered on tiiy account.' '
