कृष्ण के इन वचनों को सुनकर अर्जुन ने युधिष्ठिर पर दृष्टि डाली और क्रुद्ध सर्प की भाँति श्वास लेते हुए गोविन्द से कहा — जो मुझसे यह कहे कि 'अपना गाण्डीव किसी और को दे दो,' मैं उसका मस्तक काट डालूँगा — यही मेरी गुप्त प्रतिज्ञा है। हे अप्रमेय पराक्रमी गोविन्द, यह वचन इस राजा ने तुम्हारे सामने ही कहे हैं। मैं इन्हें क्षमा करने में असमर्थ हूँ। जो राजा स्वयं धर्म से तनिक भी च्युत होने से भयभीत रहते हैं, उन्हीं को मैं इसके लिए वध करूँगा। इस श्रेष्ठ पुरुष का वध करके मैं अपनी प्रतिज्ञा की रक्षा करूँगा। हे यदुकुलानन्दन, इसी कारण मैंने यह खड्ग उठाया है। युधिष्ठिर का वध करके ही मैं सत्य के प्रति अपना ऋण चुकाऊँगा। हे जनार्दन, इससे मेरा शोक और ताप भी शान्त होगा। अब मैं तुमसे पूछता हूँ — इस परिस्थिति में तुम्हें जो उचित लगे, वह बताओ। हे तात, इस सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्माण्ड का भूत और भविष्य तुम्हें ज्ञात है। तुम जो कहोगे, मैं वही करूँगा।
English Summary
Kunti, for seeing the king. The king has been seen by thee. Indeed, Yudhishthira is well. Having seen that tiger among kings who is endued with prowess equal to that of a tiger, why this folly at a time when thou shouldst rejoice ? I do not see here, O son of Kunti, the person whom thou mayst slay. Why then dost thou desire to strike ? What is this delusion of thy mind ? Why dost thou, -with such speed, take up that formidable sword ? I ask thee this, O son of Kunti ! What is this that thou art about, inasmuch as, O thou of inconceivable prowess, thou graspest that sword in anger ?' Thus addressed by Krishna, Arjuna, casting his eyes on Yudhishthira, and breathing like an angry snake, said unto Gov inda, 1 would cut off the head of that man who would tell me 'Give thy Gandiva to another person' Even this is my secret vow. Those words have been spoken by this king, O thou of immeasurable prowess, in thy presence, O Gov inda ! I dare not forgive them. I will for that slay this king who himself fears the slightest falling off from virtue. Slaying this best of men, I will keep my vow. It is for this that I have drawn the sword, O delighter of the Yadus. Even I, slaying Yudhishthira, will pay o3F my debt to truth. By that I will dispel my grief and fever, O Janardana. I ask thee, what do you think suitable to the circumstances that have arisen ? Thou, O sire, knowest the entire past and future of this universe. I will do what thou wilt tell me.' "
