सञ्जय ने कहा — तुम्हारे पुत्र की दुर्नीति के कारण जब शत्रु-सेना उस प्रकार व्यूह बनाकर खड़ी हुई, तब अर्जुन ने भी अपनी सेना को उचित रीति से सुव्यवस्थित किया। अश्वारोहियों, हाथियों, पैदल सैनिकों और रथों से परिपूर्ण वह विशाल पाण्डव-सेना धृष्टद्युम्न के नेतृत्व में अत्यन्त भव्य दिखाई दे रही थी। पृषत के पुत्र धृष्टद्युम्न कबूतर के समान श्वेत अश्वों पर आरूढ़ थे, सूर्य और चन्द्रमा के समान उनकी आभा थी, और धनुष धारण किए वे साक्षात् मूर्तिमान काल के समान प्रतीत हो रहे थे। द्रौपदी के पुत्र, जो युद्ध की अभिलाषा से भरे हुए थे, पृषत-पुत्र के पार्श्व में खड़े थे। वे उत्तम कवच धारण किए हुए थे, श्रेष्ठ अस्त्र-शस्त्रों से सुसज्जित थे, और सभी में बाघ के समान पराक्रम था। देदीप्यमान शरीरों से युक्त वे सब अपने मामा के पीछे उसी प्रकार चल रहे थे जैसे चन्द्रमा के साथ तारे चलते हैं। संशप्तकों को व्यूह बनाकर खड़े देख अर्जुन का क्रोध भड़क उठा और वे वेग से उनकी ओर बढ़े।
English Summary
Sanjaya said, — "Observing the vast hostile force stationed in that manner, Arjuna arrayed his troops in proper form, in consequence of the evil policy of thy son. The vast Pandava force then, teeming with horsemen and elephants and foot-soldiers and cars, and headed by Dhrishtadyumna, looked exceedingly magnificient. With his steeds white as pigeons, the son of Prishata, equal in splendour to the Sun or the Moon, armed with bow, looked resplendent like Death himself in embodied form. The sons of Draupadi, desirous of battle, stood by the side of the son of Prishata. They were clad in excellent coats of mail, and armed with excellent weapons, and all of them were endued with the prowess of tigers. Possessed of effulgent bodies, they followed their maternal uncle like the stars appearing with the Moon. Beholding the Samsaptakas standing in array, Arjuna, with wrath excited, rushed KARNA PA1YA 131
