वैशम्पायन ने कहा — (आगे) उनके नेत्रों से, नासिका से, कानों से और शरीर के प्रत्येक अंग से धुएँ सहित अग्नि की भयंकर चिनगारियाँ निकलने लगीं। उनके रोमकूपों से सूर्य की किरणों के समान अग्नि-स्फुलिंग प्रकट हो रहे थे। महात्मा केशव के उस भयावह रूप को देखकर सभी राजाओं ने भयभीत हृदय से अपने नेत्र मूँद लिए — केवल द्रोण, भीष्म, महाबुद्धिमान विदुर, परम सौभाग्यशाली सञ्जय, और तपोधन ऋषिगण को छोड़कर, क्योंकि दिव्य जनार्दन ने उस अवसर पर उन्हें दिव्य दृष्टि प्रदान की थी। कुरु-सभा में उस अत्यन्त अद्भुत दृश्य को देखकर आकाश में दिव्य नगाड़े बजने लगे और पुष्पवर्षा होने लगी। सम्पूर्ण पृथ्वी काँप उठी और समुद्र उद्वेलित हो गए। हे भरतश्रेष्ठ, पृथ्वी के समस्त प्राणी महान् विस्मय से भर गए। तब पुरुषसिंह, शत्रुदमन ने उस दिव्य, अत्यन्त अद्भुत, अनेकरूपी और मंगलमय स्वरूप को समेट लिया। फिर एक ओर सात्यकि का और दूसरी ओर हृदिक-पुत्र कृतवर्मा का बाहु-सहारा लेकर, ऋषियों से अनुमति प्राप्त कर, मधुसूदन सभा से बाहर चले गए।
English Summary
Vaisampayana said,— (continued) And from his eyes and nose and ears and every part of his body, issued fierce sparks of fire mixed with smoke. And from the pores of his body issued sparks of fire like unto the rays of the Sun. And beholding that awful form of the high-souled Kesava, all the kings closed their eyes with affrighted hearts, except Drona, and Bhishma, and Vidura, endued with great intelligence, greatly blessed Sanjaya, and the Rishis, possessed of wealth of asceti- cism, for the divine Janarddana gave unto them this divine sight on the occasion. And beholding in the (Kuru) court that highly wonderful sight, celestial drums beat (in the sky) and a floral shower fell (upon him).
