वैशम्पायन ने कहा — (आगे) हे माधव, न पति के वियोग ने, न धन की हानि ने, न कुरुओं से शत्रुता ने मुझे वह पीड़ा दी, जो अपने पुत्रों के वियोग ने दी है। जब मैं गाण्डीव धारण करने वाले धनञ्जय को, उस श्रेष्ठ धनुर्धर को, अपने सामने नहीं देखती, तो मेरे हृदय को शान्ति कहाँ मिल सकती है? हे गोविन्द, चौदह वर्षों से मैंने युधिष्ठिर को, धनञ्जय को और वृकोदर को नहीं देखा। जो चिरकाल से दिखाई न दें, उन्हें मृत मानकर लोग उनका श्राद्ध कर देते हैं। हे जनार्दन, व्यवहार में तो मेरे पुत्र मेरे लिए मृत के समान हैं और मैं उनके लिए।
English Summary
Vaisampayana continued, — (continued) Neither the loss of my husband, O Madhava, nor loss of wealth, nor our hostility with the Kurus ever inflicted such rending pains on me as that separation from my children. What peace can my heart know when I do not see before me that wielder of Gandiva, viz., Dhananjaya, that foremost of all bearers of arms? I have not, for fourteen years, O Govinda, seen Yudhishthira, and Dhananjaya, and Vrikodara. Men perform the obsequies of those that are missed for a long time, taking them for dead. Practically, O Janarddana, my children are all dead to me and I am dead to them.
