वैशम्पायन ने कहा — (आगे) वासुदेव ने समस्त यादवों सहित उनकी अधीनता स्वीकार की। तत्पश्चात् वह महापराक्रमी वीर मद्र देश की राजधानी शाकल नगरी में गया और अपने मामा शल्य को स्नेहवश पाण्डवों की अधीनता स्वीकार कराई। हे राजन्, वह तेजस्वी राजकुमार अपने मामा के आतिथ्य का अधिकारी था और मामा ने उसका भली-भाँति सत्कार किया। युद्धकला में निपुण उस राजकुमार ने शल्य से बहुमूल्य रत्न और मणियों का विशाल भण्डार लेकर उस राज्य से प्रस्थान किया। तत्पश्चात् पाण्डु-पुत्र ने समुद्र तट पर निवास करने वाले उग्र म्लेच्छों को तथा पल्हव, किरात, यवन और शक जनजातियों को भी अपने अधीन किया। अनेक राजाओं को पराजित कर उन सबसे कर वसूल करते हुए कुरुश्रेष्ठ नकुल, जो साधनों से परिपूर्ण था, अपनी नगरी की ओर लौट पड़ा। हे राजन्, नकुल जो सम्पदा लेकर आया, वह इतनी विशाल थी कि दस हजार ऊँट भी उसे कठिनाई से ही वहन कर सकते थे। इन्द्रप्रस्थ पहुँचकर माद्री के उस वीर और सौभाग्यशाली पुत्र ने वह समस्त धन-सम्पदा युधिष्ठिर के चरणों में समर्पित कर दी।
English Summary
Vaisampayana said,— (continued) And Vasudeva with all the Yadavas accepted his saway. And the mighty hero, proceeding thence to Sakala, the city of the Madras, made his uncle Salya accept from affection the sway of the Pandavas. And, O monarch, the illustrious prince deserving the hospitality and entertainment at his uncle's hands, was well entertained by his uncle. And skilled in war, the prince, taking from Salya a large quantity of jewels and gems, left his kingdom. And the son of Pandu then reduced to subjection the fierce Mkchchas residing on the sea coast, as also the wild tribes of the Palhavas, the Kiratas, the Yavanas, and the Sakas. And having subjugated^ various monarchs, and making all of them pay tributes, Nakula, that foremost of the Kurus, full of resources, retraced his way towards his own city. And, O king, so great was the treasure which Nakula brought that ten thousand camels could carry It with difficulty on their backs. And arriving at Indrapras- tha, the heroic and fortunate son of Madri presented the whole of that wealth unto Yudhishthira.
