धृतराष्ट्र ने कहा — हे सूत, तुमने मुझे जो यह वृत्तान्त सुनाया — एक वीर और अनेक योद्धाओं के बीच वह भीषण और भयंकर युद्ध, और उस तेजस्वी वीर की विजय — सुभद्रा के पुत्र के इस पराक्रम की कथा अत्यन्त अद्भुत और लगभग अविश्वसनीय प्रतीत होती है। किन्तु जो धर्म की शरण लेते हैं, उनके विषय में मैं इसे सर्वथा असम्भव नहीं मानता। जब दुर्योधन पराजित हो गया और सौ राजकुमार मारे गए, तब मेरी सेना के योद्धाओं ने सुभद्रा के पुत्र के विरुद्ध क्या मार्ग अपनाया?
