क्या तुम इस प्रकार अपनी इच्छानुसार क्रीड़ा करते हो, हे वासव? किन्तु मुझे तो मरना होगा — मेरे परिवार के सदस्यों को भी, और उन सेवकों को भी जिन्हें मैंने अपने घर में नियुक्त किया है। यह सब तुम्हें प्रसन्न करेगा, ऐसा मुझे लगता है, हे वासव! हे वल और वृत्र के संहारक, मैं इस सबका — और इससे भी अधिक का — अधिकारी हूँ, क्योंकि तीनों लोकों का स्वामी होने की सामर्थ्य रखते हुए भी मैंने दूसरे का सेवक बनना स्वीकार किया। हे त्रिलोकाधिपति, मेरी हीनता का एकमात्र कारण विष्णु नहीं हैं, क्योंकि हे वासव, मैं तुम्हारे सर्वथा समकक्ष हूँ, फिर भी तीनों लोकों का आधिपत्य तुम पर ही टिका है, हे देवराज। तुम्हारी भाँति मेरी माता भी दक्ष की पुत्री हैं और पिता भी कश्यप हैं। तुम्हारी भाँति मैं भी बिना किसी श्रम के तीनों लोकों का भार वहन करने में समर्थ हूँ। मेरी शक्ति अपरिमेय है और किसी भी प्राणी द्वारा अजेय है। दैत्यों के साथ युद्ध में भी मैंने महान् पराक्रम दिखाया है। दिति के पुत्रों में श्रुतश्री, श्रुतसेन, विवस्वान्, रोचनमुख, प्रश्रुत और कालकाक्ष — ये सब मेरे द्वारा ही मारे गए। तुम्हारे अनुज के रथ की ध्वजा पर बैठकर मैं युद्ध में उसकी सावधानी से रक्षा करता हूँ, और कभी-कभी तुम्हारे उस भाई को अपनी पीठ पर भी वहन करता हूँ। सम्भवतः इसीलिए तुम मुझे तुच्छ समझते हो। इस ब्रह्माण्ड में और कौन है जो इतने भारी भार को वहन करने में समर्थ हो? मुझसे अधिक बलवान् कौन है? श्रेष्ठ होते हुए भी मैं तुम्हारे इस अनुज को और उसके समस्त मित्रों को अपनी पीठ पर उठाए चलता हूँ।
English Summary
Dost thou sport thus, O Vasava, as thou listcst ? I, however, shall have to die, as also the members of my family, and the servants whom I have engaged in my house. That will, I think, gratify thee, O Vasava ! Indeed, O slayer of Vala and Vritra, I deserve all this, nay more, since being the lord of the thtee worlds in might. I yet consented to become the servant of another. O monarch of the three worlds, Vishnu, however, is not the only cause of my inferiority, for though, O Vasava, lam quite thy equal, yet the sovereignty of the three worlds resteth on thee, O chief of the celestials. " Like thee, I also have a daughter of Daksha for my mother and Kasyapa for my father. Like thee, I also can, without any fatigue, bear the weight of the three worlds. I have strength that is immeasurable and incapable of being resisted by any creature. In the war with the Daityas I also achieved grand feats. Srutasri and Srutasena and Vivaswar, and Rochanamukha, and Prasrura, and Kalakaksha amongst the sons of Diti were slain by me. Perching yet on the flagstaff of thy younger brother's car, I carefully protect It in battle, and sometimes also I bear that brother of thine on my back. It is, perhaps, for this that thou disregardest me. Who else in the universe is there that is capable of bearing such heavy burthens ? Who is there that is stronger than myself ? Superior though I am, I yet bear on my back this younger brother of thine with all his friends.
