धृतराष्ट्र ने कहा — हे सञ्जय, भीम ने जो यह कार्य किया, वह अत्यन्त दुष्कर था। उस महाबाहु कर्ण को ही रथ की छत पर गिरा देना — यह साधारण पराक्रम नहीं था। हे सूत, दुर्योधन मुझसे बार-बार यही कहा करता था कि पाण्डवों और श्रृञ्जयों का वध करने में एकमात्र कर्ण ही समर्थ है। किन्तु अब जब राधा के उस पुत्र को भीम ने युद्ध में परास्त कर दिया, तो मेरे पुत्र दुर्योधन ने इसके पश्चात् क्या किया? सञ्जय ने कहा — हे राजन्, उस महासंग्राम में सूतपुत्र राधानन्दन को युद्ध से विमुख होते देख, आपके पुत्र ने अपने सहोदर भाइयों को सम्बोधित करते हुए कहा — "हे भद्रजनों, शीघ्र जाओ और राधापुत्र की रक्षा करो, जो भीमसेन के भय रूपी उस अथाह सागर में डूब रहे हैं।" राजा की इस आज्ञा को पाकर वे राजकुमार क्रोध से भर उठे और भीमसेन का वध करने की इच्छा से उसकी ओर उसी प्रकार दौड़ पड़े, जैसे पतंगे प्रज्वलित अग्नि की ओर झपटते हैं। वे थे — श्रुतर्वन, दुर्धर, क्रथ, विवित्सु, विकट, सोम, निषङ्गी, कवाषी, पाशी, नन्द, उपनन्दक, दुष्प्रधर्ष, सुबाहु, वातवेग, सुवर्चसा, धनुर्ग्रह, दुर्मद, जलसन्ध, शल और सह। विशाल रथ-सेना से घिरे वे महाबली और महातेजस्वी राजकुमार भीमसेन के पास पहुँचे और उन्हें चारों ओर से घेर लिया।

Bhimasena a Furious Fights Dhritarashtra said, "Exeedingly difficult of accomplishment was that feat, O Sanjaya, which was achieved by Bhima who caused the mighty-armed Kama himself to measure his length on the terrace of his car. There is only one person, viz., Kama, who will slay the Panda v as along with the Srinjayas — even this is what Duryodhana, O Suta, used very often to say unto me. Beholding, however, that son of Radha now defeated by Bhima in battle, what did my son Duryodhana next do?" Sanjaya said, "Beholding Radha's son of the Suta caste turned back from the fight in that great battle, thy son, O monarch, addressed his uterine brothers, saying, 'Go ye quickly, blessed be ye, and protect the son of Radha who is plunged into that fathomless ocean of cala- mity represented by the fear of Bhimasena.' Thus commanded by the king, those princes, excited with wrath and desirous of slaying Bhima- sena, rushed towards him like insects towards a blazing fire. They were Srutarvan and Durddhara and Kratha and Vivitsu and Vikata and Soma, and Nishangin and Kavashin and Pasin and Nanda and Upanan- daka, and Duspradharsha and Suvahu and Vatavega and Suvarchasas, and Dhanurgraha and Durmada and Jalasandha and Sala and Saha.
