शत्रुओं को दण्ड देने वाले हे कृष्ण, क्रोध से जलती हुई गान्धारी को शान्त करना उचित है। आप ही सृष्टि के कर्ता हैं, आप ही संहारक हैं। आप स्वयं नित्य हैं और समस्त लोकों के आदि कारण हैं। दृश्य और अदृश्य, काल के प्रभाव से उत्पन्न युक्तियुक्त वचनों से आप, हे महाबुद्धिमान, गान्धारी के क्रोध को शीघ्र शान्त कर सकते हैं। हमारे पितामह, आपके पवित्र कृष्ण-द्वैपायन भी वहाँ उपस्थित होंगे। हे महाबाहु, अपनी सम्पूर्ण शक्ति से गान्धारी के क्रोध को शान्त करना आपका धर्म है। धर्मराज युधिष्ठिर के ये वचन सुनकर यदुवंश के कुलदीपक श्रीकृष्ण ने दारुक को बुलाकर कहा — मेरा रथ तैयार करो। केशव की आज्ञा पाकर दारुक शीघ्रता से लौटा और अपने महात्मा स्वामी को सूचित किया कि रथ प्रस्तुत है। तब शत्रुओं को दग्ध करने वाले यदुवंश के अग्रणी भगवान केशव रथ पर आरूढ़ हुए और कुरुओं की नगरी की ओर तीव्र गति से चल पड़े। भगवान माधव अपने रथ पर सवार होकर आगे बढ़े और हस्तिनापुर पहुँचकर उस नगरी में प्रवेश किया। नगर में प्रवेश करते समय उनके रथ के पहियों की गड़गड़ाहट से सारी नगरी गूँज उठी। उन्होंने धृतराष्ट्र को सूचना भिजवाई, फिर रथ से उतरकर उस वृद्ध राजा के महल में प्रवेश किया। वहाँ उन्होंने देखा कि ऋषिश्रेष्ठ द्वैपायन उनसे पहले ही वहाँ पधार चुके हैं। जनार्दन ने व्यास और धृतराष्ट्र दोनों के चरणों का आलिङ्गन किया और गान्धारी को भी मौन भाव से प्रणाम किया। तब यदुवंश के अग्रणी भगवान विष्णु ने, हे राजन, धृतराष्ट्र का हाथ थामकर मधुर स्वर में रुदन करने लगे। कुछ देर तक शोक से अश्रु बहाने के पश्चात उन्होंने जल से अपने नेत्र और मुख धोए।

Thou art the first cause of all the worlds, thyself being eternal ! Bywords fraught with reasons, visible and invisible1 that are all the result of time, thou wilt quickly, O thou of great wisdom, be able to pacify Gandhari ! Our grandsire, thy holy Krishna-Dwaipayana, will be there. O mighty- armed one, It is thy duty to dispel, by all means in thy power, the wrath of Gandhari !' Hearing these words of king Yudhishthira the just, the perpetuator of Yadu's race, summoning Daruka, said, 'Let my car be equipped !' Having received Kcsava's command, Daruka in great haste, returned and represented unto his high-suuled master that the car was ready. That scorcher of foes and ctiief of Yadu's race, viz., the lord Kesava, having mounted the car, proceeded with great haste to the city of the Kurus. The adorable Madhava then, riding on his vehicle, pro- ceeded, and arriving at the city called after the elephant entered It. Causing the city to resound with the rattle of his car-wheels as he enter- ed It, he sent word to Dhritarashtra and then alighted from his vehicle and entered the palace of the old king. He there beheld that best of Hishis, (viz., Dwaipayana) arrived before him. Janardana, embracing the feet of both Vyasa and Dhritarashtra, quietly saluted Gandhari also. Then the foremost of the Yadavas, viz., Vishnu, seizing Dhritarashtra by the hand, O monarch, began to weep melodiously.
