पृथ्वी ने कहा — हे द्विजश्रेष्ठ, कुछ श्रेष्ठ क्षत्रिय हैं जिन्हें मैंने स्त्रियों के मध्य छिपाकर रखा है। वे हैहय वंश में उत्पन्न हुए हैं। हे मुनिवर, वे मेरी रक्षा करें। पुरु के वंश में एक और पुरुष है, अर्थात् विदुरथ का पुत्र, जो ऋक्षवत् पर्वत पर भालुओं के मध्य पला-बढ़ा है। एक अन्य, सौदास का पुत्र, अपरिमित तेजस्वी और सदा यज्ञों में संलग्न पराशर मुनि द्वारा करुणावश संरक्षित किया गया है। यद्यपि वह द्विज कुल में उत्पन्न हुआ है, तथापि शूद्र के समान उस ऋषि के सभी कार्य करता है, इसीलिए उसका नाम सर्वकर्मन् पड़ा है। शिवि के महातेजस्वी पुत्र, जिनका नाम गोपति है, वन में गायों के मध्य पले हैं। हे मुनिवर, वे मेरी रक्षा करें। प्रदर्दन के महाबली पुत्र, जिनका नाम वत्स है, एक गोशाले में बछड़ों के मध्य पले हैं। वह राजकुलोत्पन्न वीर मेरी रक्षा करे। दधिवाहन के पौत्र और दिविरथ के पुत्र को गौतम मुनि ने गंगा के तट पर छिपाकर सुरक्षित रखा। उनका नाम वृहद्रथ है। महान् तेज से सम्पन्न और अनेक शुभ गुणों से विभूषित वह धन्य राजकुमार भेड़ियों और गृध्रकूट पर्वत द्वारा संरक्षित रहा है। मरुत्त के वंश के अनेक क्षत्रिय भी सुरक्षित हैं। मरुतों के स्वामी के समान तेजस्वी वे समुद्र द्वारा पाले गए हैं। इस क्षत्रिय कुल के ये बालक विभिन्न स्थानों में विद्यमान सुने गए हैं। वे शिल्पकारों और सुनारों के मध्य जीवन व्यतीत कर रहे हैं। यदि वे मेरी रक्षा करें, तो मैं स्थिर रह सकूँगी। इनके पिता और पितामह महापराक्रमी परशुराम द्वारा मेरे कारण मारे गए थे। हे महामुनि, यह मेरा कर्तव्य है कि मैं देखूँ कि उनके श्राद्ध-कर्म विधिपूर्वक सम्पन्न हों।
English Summary
"The Earth said, — There are, O regenerate one, some foremost of Kshattriyas concealed by me among women. They were born in the race of Haihayas. Let them, O sage, protect me 1 There is another person of Puru's race, viz., Viduratha's son, 0 puissant one, who has been brought up among bears in the Rikshavat mountains. Another, viz., the son of Saudasa, has been protected, through compassion, by Parasara of immea- surable energy and ever engaged in sacrifices. Though born in one of the regenerate orders, yet like a Sudra he does everything for that Rishi and has, therefore, been named Sarvakarman (servant of all work). Sivi's son of great energy, viz., Gopati by name, has been brought up in the forest among kine. Let him, 0 sage, protect me ! Pradarddana's son, named Vatsa of great might, has been brought up among calves in a cowpen. Let that one of the royal order protect me. Dadhivahana's grandson and Diviratha's son was concealed and protected on the banks of Ganga by the sage Gautama. His name is Vrihadratha. Possessed of great energy and adorned with numerous blessed qualities, that blessed prince has been protected by wolves and the mountains of Griddhrakuta. Many Ksbattri- yas belonging to the race of Marutta have been protected. Equal unto the lord of Maruts in energy, they have been brought up by Ocean. These children of the Kshattriya order have been heard of as existing in different places. They are living among artisans and goldsmiths. If they protect me I shall then stay unmoved. Their sires and grandsires have been slain for my sake by Rama of great prowess. It is my duty, O great sage, to see that their funeral rites are duly performed.
