तब अर्जुन, भीष्म का वध करने की इच्छा से, शिखण्डी को आगे करके, उन महारथियों से युद्ध कर रहे भीम के पास पहुँचे और तुम्हारी सेना के उन दस भयंकर योद्धाओं पर टूट पड़े, हे भारत। तब विभत्सु ने भीम का प्रिय करने की इच्छा से, हे राजन्, उन सभी योद्धाओं को बाणों से बींध डाला जो भीम से युद्ध कर रहे थे। तब राजा दुर्योधन ने अर्जुन और भीमसेन दोनों के विनाश के लिए सुशर्मा को प्रेरित करते हुए कहा — "हे सुशर्मा, बड़ी सेना लेकर शीघ्र जाओ। पाण्डु के उन दोनों पुत्रों — धनञ्जय और वृकोदर — का वध करो।" उसके ये वचन सुनकर, प्रस्थल देश के स्वामी त्रिगर्त-नरेश ने युद्ध में उन दोनों धनुर्धरों — भीम और धनञ्जय — पर शीघ्र आक्रमण किया और अनेक सहस्र रथों से उन दोनों को घेर लिया। तब अर्जुन और शत्रुओं के बीच एक भीषण युद्ध आरम्भ हुआ।
English Summary
Then Arjuna, desirous of slaying Bhishma, placing Sikhandin before him, approached Bhima who had been fighting with those great car-warriors and fell upon those fierce combatants, numbering ten, of thy army, O Bharata. Then Vibhatsu, desirous of doing what was agreeable to Bhima, pierced all those warriors, O king, who had been battling with Bhima. Then king Duryodhana urged Susarman, for the destruction of both Arjuna and Bhimasena, saying, 'O Susarman, go thou quickly supported by a large force. Slay those two sons of Pandu, viz., Dhananjaya and Vriko- dara.* Hearing these words of his, the Trigarta king who ruled the country called Prasthala, quickly rushed in battle upon those two bowmen, viz., Bhima and Dhananjaya, and surrounded them both by many thousands of cars. Then commenced a fierce battle between Arjuna and the foe.1*
