सञ्जय ने कहा — युद्ध में अपने पिता के वध का समाचार सुनकर द्रोण के पुत्र अश्वत्थामा उस सर्प के समान हो गए जिसे किसी ने पैर से कुचल दिया हो। वे भयंकर क्रोध से भर उठे। हे राजन्, उस क्रोध में अश्वत्थामा उस अग्नि की भाँति भड़क उठे जिसमें अपार ईंधन डाल दिया गया हो। उन्होंने अपने हाथ मसले, दाँत पीसे और सर्प की भाँति श्वास लेने लगे। उनके नेत्र रक्त के समान लाल हो गए।
English Summary
"Sanjaya continued, 'Hearing of the slaughter of his sire in battle, Drona's son, like a snake struck with the foot, became filled with fierce wrath. And filled with rage, 0 sire, Aswatthaman blazed up in that battle like a fire fed with a large quantity of fuel. As he squeezed his hands and ground his teeth, and breathed like a snake, his eyes became red as blood.' "
