अर्जुन को अग्रणी मानकर पार्थों ने शिखण्डी को सेना के आगे रखा और भीष्म पर विविध प्रकार के बाणों की वर्षा करते हुए आगे बढ़े। हे भारत, भीष्म के बाणों से पीड़ित होकर तुम्हारे अनेक योद्धा रक्त में डूबे हुए परलोक को प्रयाण कर गए। नकुल और सहदेव तथा महान रथी सात्यकि तुम्हारी सेना के निकट पहुँचकर उसे अत्यन्त बल के साथ पीड़ित करने लगे। हे भरतकुलश्रेष्ठ, इस प्रकार युद्ध में संहार होने पर तुम्हारे योद्धा पाण्डवों की उस विशाल सेना का सामना करने में असमर्थ हो गए। महान रथियों द्वारा प्रबल वेग से पीड़ित और सब ओर से संहारित होकर तुम्हारी सेना चारों दिशाओं में भाग खड़ी हुई। हे भरतकुलश्रेष्ठ, पाण्डवों और श्रृञ्जयों के तीखे बाणों से मारे जाते हुए उन्हें कोई रक्षक न मिला।
English Summary
And the Parthas with Arjuna at their head, placing Sikhandin in the van, proceeded against Bhishma in that battle, scattering diverse kinds of arrows. And then, O Bharata afflicted by Bhishma with his shafts, (many of) thy warriors, profusely bathed in blood, repaired to the other world. And Nakula and Sahadeva, and the mighty car-warrior Satyaki, approaching thy army, began to afflict It with great vigour. Thus slaughtered in battle, O bull of Bharata's race, thy warriors were unable to resist that vast host of the Pandavas. Then thy host, vigorously afflicted by great car-warriors and thus slaughtered by them everywhere, fled away on all sides. Slaughtered with sharp shafts by the Pandavas and the Srinjayas they found not a protector, O bull of Bharata's race."
