वैशम्पायन ने कहा — पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ वे वीर, पक्षियों के समान वेगशाली उत्तम अश्वों पर सवार होकर, दाशार्ह-वंशी कृष्ण के साथ अपने शिविर में लौटे। अपने रथों से शीघ्र उतरकर उन महारथियों ने, जो स्वयं भी अत्यन्त पीड़ित थे, द्रुपद-पुत्री कृष्णा को शोक से व्याकुल देखा। दुःख और विषाद से आहत उस उदास राजकुमारी के पास जाकर पाण्डव और केशव उसके चारों ओर बैठ गये। तब राजा युधिष्ठिर की इच्छा से महाबली भीमसेन ने वह दिव्य मणि उसे देते हुए ये वचन कहे — हे प्रिये, यह मणि तुम्हारी है। तुम्हारे पुत्रों के हत्यारे को परास्त कर दिया गया है। अपना शोक त्यागकर उठो और क्षत्राणी के धर्म का स्मरण करो। हे काले नेत्रों वाली, जब वासुदेव शान्ति-दूत बनकर उपप्लव्य से प्रस्थान करने वाले थे, तब तुमने, हे भीरु, मधुसूदन से ये वचन कहे थे — मेरे कोई पति नहीं हैं! मेरे कोई पुत्र नहीं, न भाई! और हे गोविन्द, तुम भी जीवित नहीं हो, क्योंकि राजा सन्धि चाहते हैं! ये कटु वचन तुमने कृष्ण से, जो पुरुषों में अग्रगण्य हैं, कहे थे। तुम्हें अपने उन वचनों का स्मरण करना चाहिए जो क्षत्रिय-धर्म के सर्वथा अनुकूल थे। हमारे राज्य के मार्ग में बाधा बना वह दुर्बुद्धि दुर्योधन मारा जा चुका है। जीवित दुःशासन का रक्त मैंने पी लिया है।
English Summary
"Vaisampayana continued, 'Those tigers among men, borne by their excellent steeds resembling the wing in fleetness, came back, with him of Dasarha's race, to their encampment. Speedily alighting from their cars, those great car-warriors, themselves much more afflicted, beheld, Drupada's daughter Krishna afflicted with woe. Approaching the cheerless princess stricken with sorrow and grief, the Pandavas with Kesava, sat round her. Then the mighty Bhimasena, desired by the king, gave that celestial gem unto her and said these words : 'This gem, O amiable lady, is thine. The slayer of thy sons hath been vanquished. Rise, casting off thy sorrow, and recollect the duties of a Kshatriya lady. O thou of black eyes, when Vasudeva was about to set out (from Upaplavya) on his mission of peace, thou hadst, O timid lady, said even these words unto the stayer of Madhu, 'I have no husbands ! I have no sons, nor brothers ! Nor art thou alive, O Govinda, since the king desires for peace !' Those bitter words were addressed by thee to Krishna, that foremost of persons ! It behoveth thee to recollect those words of thine that were so consistent with Kshatriya usages. The wretched Duryodhana, that obstacle on the way of our sovereignty, has been slain.
