तब वीर भीमसेन ने अपने सारथी विशोक को गहरे घायल देखकर मद्रराज की भुजाओं और वक्षस्थल पर तीन बाण चलाए। और जो अन्य महारथी वहाँ थे, उन प्रत्येक को उसने उस युद्ध में तीन-तीन सीधे बाणों से बेधा, और फिर सिंह के समान ऊँचा गर्जन किया। तब उन महारथियों ने भी पूरे बल से उस पाण्डु-पुत्र को, जो युद्ध में अत्यन्त कुशल था, तीन-तीन बाणों से उसके महत्त्वपूर्ण अंगों में गहरे बेध दिया। किन्तु वह महाधनुर्धर भीमसेन गहरे घायल होने पर भी उस पर्वत के समान तनिक भी नहीं काँपा, जिसे मेघ वर्षा की धाराओं से भिगो देते हैं। तब पाण्डवों के उस महारथी ने, जो क्रोध से भर उठा था, उस यशस्वी वीर ने मद्रराज को तीन बाणों से गहरे बेध दिया। और हे राजन्, उसने उस युद्ध में प्राग्ज्योतिषों के राजा को सौ बाणों से बेध दिया। महायशस्वी भीमसेन ने तब कृपाचार्य को अनेक बाणों से बेधा, और फिर अपनी महान् दक्षता दिखाते हुए एक तीखे बाण से महात्मा कृतवर्मा का, जिस पर बाण चढ़ा हुआ था, धनुष काट दिया। तब शत्रुओं को तपाने वाले कृतवर्मा ने दूसरा धनुष उठाकर एक लम्बे बाण से वृकोदर की दोनों भौंहों के बीच प्रहार किया। किन्तु भीम ने उस युद्ध में शल्य को नौ लोहे के बाणों से, भगदत्त को तीन बाणों से, और कृतवर्मा को आठ बाणों से बेधकर, गौतम को आगे करके शेष सभी को भी बाणों से बेध दिया।
English Summary
The valiant Bhimasena then, beholding his charioteer Visoka deeply pierced, sped three arrows at the arms and chest of the ruler of Madras. And as regards the other great bowmen, he pierced each of them in that battle with three straight arrows, and then uttered a loud roar like that of the lion. Each of those great bowmen then, exerting himself with vigour, deeply pierced that son of Pandu skilled in battle, with three arrows in his vitals. That mighty bowman viz.» Bhimasena, though pierced deeply, trembled not (but stood still) like a mountain drenched with torrents of rain by showering clouds. Then that mighty car-warrior of the Pandavas, filled with wrath, that celebrated hero, deeply pierced the ruler of the Madras with three arrows. Then Kritavarman, that scorcher of foes, taking up another bow, struck Vrikodara between his eyebrows with a long arrow.
