केशव ने कहा — हे पुरुषश्रेष्ठ, इस पृथ्वी पर हमने न कभी ऐसा कोई पुरुष देखा है और न सुना है जो तुम्हारे समान गुणों से सम्पन्न हो। हे राजर्षि, तुम प्रत्येक गुण में देवताओं को भी पीछे छोड़ देते हो। अपनी तपस्या के बल पर तुम चर और अचर प्राणियों से भरा एक सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्माण्ड रच सकते हो। फिर यह तो कहना ही क्या कि तुमने अपने श्रेष्ठ धर्म के द्वारा अनेक पुण्यलोकों को प्राप्त किया है। अब उस ज्येष्ठ पाण्डुपुत्र के शोक को दूर करो जो अपने स्वजनों के वध से उत्पन्न दुःख में जल रहा है। चारों वर्णों के लिए चारों आश्रमों के सन्दर्भ में जो कर्तव्य बताए गए हैं, वे सब तुम्हें भलीभाँति ज्ञात हैं। ज्ञान की चारों शाखाओं में, चारों होत्राओं में जो कुछ निर्दिष्ट है, हे भारत, और योग तथा सांख्य दर्शन में जो सनातन धर्म प्रतिपादित हैं, चारों वर्णों के धर्म तथा वे कर्तव्य जो उनकी घोषित मर्यादाओं के विरुद्ध नहीं हैं — ये सब अपनी व्याख्याओं सहित हे गंगापुत्र, तुम्हें ज्ञात हैं। चारों वर्णों के मिश्रण से उत्पन्न जातियों के लिए, विभिन्न देशों, जनजातियों और कुलों के लिए जो धर्म निर्धारित हैं, और जो वेदों तथा विद्वज्जनों द्वारा प्रतिपादित हैं — वे सब भी तुम्हें भलीभाँति ज्ञात हैं। इतिहास और पुराणों के विषय तुम्हें पूर्णतः ज्ञात हैं। धर्म और आचार का विवेचन करने वाले समस्त शास्त्र तुम्हारे मन में निवास करते हैं। हे पुरुषश्रेष्ठ, तुम्हारे अतिरिक्त कोई अन्य नहीं है जो इस जगत में अध्ययन किए जाने वाले उन विषयों में उत्पन्न होने वाली शंकाओं का निवारण कर सके।
English Summary
"Kesava said,— (continued) Among men on Earth, O foremost of men, we have never seen nor heard of any one possessed of such attributes as thee ! O thou of the royal order, thou surpasaest the gods themselves in respect of every attribute! By thy ascetic power thou canst create a universe of mobile and immobile crea- tures. What need then be said of thy having acquired many blessed regions by means of thy foremost of virtues ? Dispel now the grief of the eldeet son of Pandu who is burning with sorrow on account of the slaughter of his kinsmen. All the duties that have been declared in respect of the four orders about the four modes of life are well known to thee ! Everything again that is indicated in the four branches of knowledge, in the four Hotras, 0 Bharata, as also those eternal duties that are laid down in Yoga and Sankhya philosophy, the duties too of the four orders and those duties that are not inconsistent with their declared practices, — all these, along with their interpretations,— 0 son of Ganga, are known to thee 1 The duties that have been laid down for those sprung from an intermixture of the four orders and those laid down for particular countries and tribes and families, and those declared by the Vedas and by men of wisdom, are all well known to thee ! The subjects of histories and the Puranas are all known to thee. All the scriptures treating of duty and practice dwell in thy mind. Save thee, 0 bull among men, there is no other person that can remove the doubts that may arise in respet of those subjects of knowledge that are studied in the world.
