हे पार्थ, नकुल और सहदेव के सामने, सात्यकि और शिखण्डी के सामने, धृष्टद्युम्न और भीम और शतानीक के सामने, तथा समस्त पाञ्चालों और चेदियों के देखते-देखते, वह कर्ण अपने बाणों से पाण्डव-सेना को उसी प्रकार नष्ट कर रहा है जैसे कोई हाथी कमलों के समूह को रौंद डाले। हे पाण्डुपुत्र, देखो — तुम्हारी सेना के रथी वीर भाग खड़े हो रहे हैं। हे पार्थ, देखो, देखो — वे महारथी किस प्रकार पीठ दिखाकर लौट रहे हैं। हे भारत, कर्ण के प्रहार से आहत वे हाथी पीड़ा से चिंघाड़ते हुए चारों दिशाओं में भाग रहे हैं। हे पार्थ, शत्रुओं को कुचलने वाले कर्ण द्वारा युद्ध में परास्त वे रथी-समूह भी चारों ओर बिखरते जा रहे हैं। हे पार्थ, सूतपुत्र के रथ पर स्थित वह श्रेष्ठ ध्वज, जिस पर हाथी की रस्सी का चिह्न अंकित है, सम्पूर्ण रणक्षेत्र में विचरता दिखाई दे रहा है। देखो, राधापुत्र अब भीमसेन की ओर बढ़ रहा है — सैकड़ों बाण बरसाता हुआ और तुम्हारी सेना का संहार करता हुआ। हे पार्थ, वे पाञ्चालों के महारथी कर्ण के हाथों उसी प्रकार परास्त हो रहे हैं जैसे भयंकर युद्ध में इन्द्र के हाथों दैत्य परास्त हुए थे। पाञ्चालों, पाण्डुपुत्रों और सृञ्जयों को जीतकर कर्ण अब चारों ओर दृष्टि दौड़ा रहा है — मुझे लगता है, वह तुम्हें ही खोज रहा है। हे पार्थ, देखो — कर्ण अपना श्रेष्ठ धनुष कैसे सुन्दरता से खींचता है।
English Summary
In the very sight of the twins, O Partha, and of Satyaki and Sikhandin, and Dhrishtadyumna and Bhima and Satanika, O lord, as also of all the Panchalas and the Chedis, O Bharata, yonder Kama is destroying the Pandava division with his arrows, like an elephant destroying an assem- blage of lotuses. There, those car-warriors of thy army, O son of Pandu, are flying away. See, see, O Partha, how those great warriors are retreating. Those elephants, O Bharata, assailed by Kama in battle, are flying away in all directions, uttering cries of pain. There those crowds of car-warriors, routed in battle, O Partha, by Kama, that crusher of foes, are flying away in all directions. Behold, O Partha, that foremost of standards, of the Suta's son, on his car, bearing the device of the elephant's rope, is seen to move all over the field. There, the son of Radha is now rushing against Bhimasena, scattering hundreds of shafts as he proceeds and slaughtering thy army therewith. There, those mighty car-warriors of the Panchalas are being routed (by Kama) even as the Daityas had been routed by Sakra in dreadful battle. There, Kama, having vanquished the Panchalas, the Pandus, and the Srinjayas, is casting his eyes on all sides, I think, for seeking thee. Behold, O Partha, Kama, as he beautifully draws his foremost
