तूने स्वयं वह नीच कर्म किया जो केवल अधम लोग करते हैं, और अब हमारी सहायता से शत्रुओं को जीतना चाहता है। सहदेव ने जुए के अनेक दोषों और उसकी महान पापमयता के विषय में जो वचन कहे थे, वे तूने सुने थे। फिर भी दुष्टों द्वारा पूजित उस जुए को तू त्याग न सका। इसी कारण हम सब नरक में पड़े हैं। जब से तू जुए में लगा, तब से हमें तुझसे कभी कोई सुख नहीं मिला। हे पाण्डु-पुत्र, यह सारी विपत्ति तूने स्वयं उत्पन्न की है, और अब फिर मुझे ये कठोर वचन सुना रहा है। हमारे द्वारा मारे गए शत्रु-सैनिक विकृत देहों के साथ रणभूमि पर पड़े हैं और ऊँचे स्वर में विलाप कर रहे हैं। वह क्रूर कर्म तूने ही किया था, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप कौरव अपराधी बने और अब नष्ट हो रहे हैं। उत्तर, पश्चिम, पूर्व और दक्षिण के राष्ट्रों के वीर दोनों पक्षों के महारथियों द्वारा अतुलनीय पराक्रम दिखाने के पश्चात् आहत, घायल और वध को प्राप्त हो रहे हैं। जुआ तूने खेला था। राज्य हमने तेरे कारण खोया। हे राजन्, यह विपत्ति तेरे ही कारण आई। हे राजन्, अपने वचनों के क्रूर अंकुश से हमें फिर मत पीड़ित कर और हमारे क्रोध को मत जगा।
English Summary
Having thyself committed a wicked act to which they only are addicted that are low, thou desirest now to vanquish thy foes through our aid. Thou hadst heard of the numerous faults and the great sinfulness of dice that Sahadeva spoke about. Yet dice, which is worshipped by the wicked, thou couldst not abandon. It was for this that all of us have fallen into hell. We have never derived any happiness from thee since thou wert engaged in gambling with dice. Having, O son of Pandu, thyself caused all this calamity, thou art, again, addressing these harsh words to me. Slain by us, hostile troops are lying on the field, with mangled bodies and uttering loud wails. It was thou that didst that cruel act in consequence of which the Kauravas have become offenders and are being destroyed. Nations from the North, the West, the East, and the South, are being struck, wounded and slain, after the performance of incomparable feats in battle by great warriors of both sides. It was thou that hadst gambled. It was for thee that we lost our kingdom. Our calamity arose from thee, O king ! Striking us, again, with the cruel goad of thy speeches, O king, do not provoke our wrath.'
