वैशम्पायन ने कहा — इस प्रकार सम्बोधित किए जाने पर वह ब्राह्मण, जो पुण्यात्मा और सत्कर्मी था तथा तेज में सूर्य और चन्द्रमा के समान था, हे वीर, उन पर प्रसन्न हो गया। ब्राह्मण ने कहा — "सौ" और "लाख" — ये दोनों शब्द कभी-कभी अनन्तकाल के सूचक होते हैं। किन्तु मेरे द्वारा जो "सौ" शब्द का प्रयोग किया गया है, वह एक सीमित अवधि का बोधक है, अनन्तकाल का नहीं। अतः तुम सब मगर बनकर मनुष्यों को जल में खींचोगे, परन्तु केवल उतने ही वर्षों तक जितना मैंने कहा है। उस अवधि के अन्त में एक महान पुरुष तुम सबको जल से खींचकर भूमि पर लाएगा। तब तुम अपने वास्तविक रूप को पुनः प्राप्त कर लोगे। मैंने कभी भी असत्य नहीं बोला, यहाँ तक कि परिहास में भी नहीं। इसलिए जो कुछ मैंने कहा है, वह सब अवश्य घटित होगा। और जिन पवित्र जलों में मैं तुम्हें स्थान देता हूँ, वे जल जब उस महान पुरुष द्वारा तुम्हारा उद्धार हो जाएगा, तब सम्पूर्ण संसार में "नारी-तीर्थ" के नाम से विख्यात होंगे, और सज्जनों तथा विद्वानों की दृष्टि में वे सब पवित्र और पापनाशक तीर्थ बन जाएँगे।
English Summary
Vaisampayana continued, — "Thus addressed, that Brahmana of vir- tuous soul and good deeds and equal in splendour, O hero, unto the sun or the moon* became propitious unto them ! And the Brahmana said, — "The words hundred and hundred thousand are all indicative of eternity. The word hundred, however, as employed by me is to be understood as a limited period and not indicative of a period without end. Ye shall, therefore, becoming crocodiles, seize and take away men (for only a hundred years as explained by me). At the end of that period, an exalted individual will drag you all from water to the land. Then ye will resume your real forms. Never have I spoken an untruth even in jest. Therefore, all that I have said must come to pass. And those sacred waters (within which I assign you your places), will, after you will have been delivered by that individual, become known all over world by the name of Nari-tirthas (or sacred waters connected with the sufferings and the deliverance of females), and all of them shall become sacred and sin-cleansing in the eyes of the virtuous and the wise/ *
