वैशम्पायन ने कहा — तब धनञ्जय को युधिष्ठिर की स्वीकृति मिल चुकी थी। हे जनमेजय, यह जानकर कि वह कन्या रैवतक पर्वत पर गई है, उन्होंने वासुदेव से भी सम्मति ली और उनके साथ मिलकर आगे की सब योजना निश्चित की। तत्पश्चात् भरतवंश के उस श्रेष्ठ पुरुष ने, कृष्ण की अनुमति पाकर, अपने सुनिर्मित स्वर्णरथ पर आरूढ़ होकर प्रस्थान किया। वह रथ छोटी-छोटी घण्टियों की पंक्तियों से सुसज्जित था, उस पर सभी प्रकार के अस्त्र-शस्त्र रखे थे, उसके पहियों की गड़गड़ाहट मेघों की गर्जना के समान थी, उसकी आभा प्रज्वलित अग्नि की भाँति दीप्तिमान थी, और वह शत्रुओं के हृदय में भय उत्पन्न करता था। उस रथ में शैव्य और सुग्रीव नामक अश्व जुते हुए थे। अर्जुन स्वयं कवच धारण किए, खड्ग से सज्जित और अँगुलियों पर चर्म-आवरण चढ़ाए हुए थे। वे ऐसे निकले मानो किसी आखेट पर जा रहे हों। उधर सुभद्रा उस पर्वतराज रैवतक की वन्दना कर, देवताओं की पूजा करके, ब्राह्मणों से आशीर्वाद प्राप्त कर और पर्वत की परिक्रमा करके द्वारावती की ओर लौट रही थीं। कुन्ती के पुत्र अर्जुन कामदेव के बाणों से व्याकुल होकर उस निर्दोष रूपवती यादव कन्या की ओर वेग से बढ़े और उन्हें बलपूर्वक अपने रथ पर बिठा लिया। उस मधुर मुस्कान वाली कन्या को लेकर वह पुरुषसिंह अपने स्वर्णरथ पर अपनी नगरी इन्द्रप्रस्थ की ओर चल पड़े। इधर सुभद्रा के सशस्त्र अनुचर यह देखकर कि उन्हें इस प्रकार उठाकर ले जाया जा रहा है, चिल्लाते हुए द्वारका नगरी की ओर दौड़ पड़े। वे सब एक साथ सुधर्मा नामक यादव सभा में पहुँचे और सभाध्यक्ष को पार्थ के पराक्रम का सारा वृत्तान्त सुनाया।
English Summary
"Vaisampayana said,— Then Dhananjaya, informed of the assent of Yudhishthha, and ascertaining, O Janamejaya, that the maiden had gone to the Raivataka hill, obtained the assent of Vasudeva also, after having settled in conslutation with him all that required to be done- Then that bull of Bharata's race, that foremost of men, with Krishna's assent, riding in his well-built car of gold equipped with rows of small bells and with every kind of weapon and the clatter of whose wheels resembled the roar of the clouds and whose splendour was like unto that of a blazing fire and which struck terror into the hearts of all foes and unto which were yoked the steeds Saivya and Sugriva, himself accoutered in mail and armed with sword and his fingers encased in leathern gloves, set out, as It were, on a hunt- ing expedition. Meanwhile Subhadra, having paid her homage unto that prince of hills, viz^ Raivataka and having worshipped the deities and made the Brahmanas utter benedictions upon her, and having also walked round the hill, was coming towards Dwaravati. The son of Kunti, afflicted with the shafts of the god of desire, suddenly rushed towards that Yadava girl of faultless features and forcibly took her into his car. Having seized that girl of sweet smiles, that tiger among men proceeded in his car of gold towards his own city (Indraprastha)* Meanwhile, the armed attendants of Subhadra, beholding her thus seized and taken away, all ran, crying towards the city of Dwaraka. Reaching all together the Yadava court called by the name of Sudharma they represented everything about the prowess of Partha unto the chief officer of the court.
