भगवान् ने कहा — इस संसार में जो पुरुष, पुरुष-तत्त्व को जानते हैं, वे आत्मा की सहायता से ही आत्मा को सांसारिक विषय-वासनाओं से खींच लेते हैं। आत्मा ही आत्मा का गुरु है — विशेषतः उस पुरुष का, जो पशु-भाव में डूबा हो। क्योंकि प्रत्यक्ष अनुभव और बोध के द्वारा ही आत्मा मोक्ष को प्राप्त करती है। जिनकी आत्मा शान्त है और जो सांख्य-योग में निपुण हैं, वे मुझे समस्त शक्तियों से सम्पन्न पुरुष के रूप में देखते हैं। सृष्टि में अनेक प्रकार के रूप पहले से ही बने हैं — एक पाद वाले, दो पाद वाले, तीन पाद वाले, चार पाद वाले, बहु-पाद वाले और बिना पाद के भी। किन्तु उन सबमें पुरुष का रूप मुझे सर्वाधिक प्रिय है। यद्यपि मैं समस्त ज्ञान से परे हूँ, तथापि जो अहंकार-रहित हैं, वे इस शरीर में विद्यमान अनेक गुह्य गुणों और चिह्नों के द्वारा ध्यान में मुझे पहचान लेते हैं। इस विषय में एक प्राचीन आख्यान है — अपरिमित पराक्रमी यदु और एक अवधूत के संवाद की कथा। एक बार धर्मात्मा यदु ने एक विद्वान् और युवा अवधूत को — जो संसार से सर्वथा विरक्त था — निर्भय होकर विचरण करते देखा, तो उनसे इस प्रकार पूछा।
English Summary
The Lord said :—In this world, persons who are con- versant with the Purusha Tattwa can withdraw their soul from worldly desires with:the help of the soul. The soul is the preceptor of the soul immersed in animality, special- ly it is the preceptor of the Purusha, for it is with the help of direct recognition and perception, the soul acquires libera- tion. Persons of quiescent souls and well versed in Sankhya Yoga behold meas Purusha thriven with all energies. There are various forms created before with one leg, two legs, three legs, four legs, many legs, and without any—but amongst them the form of the Purusha is most favourite unto me. Although I am beyond all Knowledge still persons shorn of egoism through many secret qualities and marks in this body by imagination find me out. On this subject there is an ancient story relating to the conversation between Yadu of immeasurable prowess and an Abadhuta, On seeing a learned, youthful Abadhuta (one dissociated from the world) ranging fearlessly, the pious Yadu asked him as follows.
