अब मैं तुम्हें मेरु के पूर्वी भाग का यथावत् वर्णन करता हूँ। हे राजन्, उन सभी क्षेत्रों में भद्राश्व सर्वश्रेष्ठ है, जहाँ भद्रशाल वृक्षों का एक विशाल वन है और कालाम्र नामक एक महान वृक्ष भी है। हे राजन्, यह कालाम्र सदा फलों और पुष्पों से सुशोभित रहता है। यह वृक्ष एक योजन ऊँचा है और सिद्धों तथा चारणों द्वारा पूजित है। वहाँ के मनुष्य श्वेत वर्ण के हैं, महान तेज से सम्पन्न हैं और अत्यन्त बलशाली हैं। वहाँ की स्त्रियाँ कमल के समान वर्ण वाली, अत्यन्त सुन्दर और देखने में मनोहर हैं। चन्द्रमा की आभा से युक्त और चन्द्रमा के समान श्वेत, उनके मुख पूर्णचन्द्र के समान हैं। उनके शरीर चन्द्रकिरणों के समान शीतल हैं और वे सभी गायन तथा नृत्य में निपुण हैं। हे भरतकुलश्रेष्ठ, वहाँ मनुष्यों की आयु दस सहस्र वर्ष की होती है। कालाम्र का रस पीकर वे सदा युवा बने रहते हैं। नील पर्वत के दक्षिण और निषध के उत्तर में एक विशाल और शाश्वत जम्बू वृक्ष है। सिद्धों और चारणों द्वारा पूजित यह पवित्र वृक्ष सभी मनोकामनाएँ पूर्ण करता है। इसी वृक्ष के नाम पर इस खण्ड को सदा से जम्बूद्वीप कहा जाता है। हे भरतकुलश्रेष्ठ, हे नरेश्वर, वृक्षों के उस राजा की ऊँचाई एक सहस्र एक सौ योजन है और वह स्वर्ग को स्पर्श करता है। उस वृक्ष के एक पके फल की परिधि ढाई सहस्र हाथ की होती है। पकने पर वे फल पृथ्वी पर गिरते हैं तो महान ध्वनि उत्पन्न होती है और हे राजन्, तब भूमि पर रजत के समान रस प्रवाहित होता है।
English Summary
11 'I will now describe to thee the eastern side of Meru duly. Of all the regions there, the foremost, O king, is called Bhadraswa, where there is a large forest of Bhadra-salas , as also a huge tree called Kalamra. This Kalamra, O king, is always graced with fruits and flowers. That tree again is a Yojana in height and is adored by Siddhas and the Charana*. The men there are all of a white complexion, 'endued with great energy, and possessed of great strength. The women are of the complexien of liliest very beautiful, and agreeable to sight. Possessed of radiance of the moon,2 and white as the moon, their faces are as the full moon. Their bodies again are as cool as the rays of the moon and they are all accomplished in singing and dancing. The period of human life there, O bull of the Bharata's race, is ten thousand years. Drinking the juice of the Kalamra they continue youthful for ever. On the south of Nila and the north of Nishadha, there is a huge Jamvu tree that is eternal. Adored by the Siddhas and Charanas, that sacred tree granteth every wish. After the name of that tree this division hath ever been ca\[edJamvudwipa. O bull of Bharata race, a thousand and a hundred Yojanas is the height of that prince of trees, which touches the very heavens, O king of men. Two thousand and five hundred cubits measure the circumference of a fruit of that tree which bursts when ripe. In falling upon the earth these fruits make a loud noise, and then pour out, O king, a silvery juice on the ground.
