यह कहकर धर्म चले गए। धर्म के उन वचनों से विश्वामित्र क्षत्रियत्व से मुक्त होकर ब्राह्मणत्व को प्राप्त हुए और आनन्द से भर गए। अपने शिष्य गालव की सेवा और भक्ति से प्रसन्न होकर तपस्वी विश्वामित्र ने उससे कहा — "हे गालव, मेरी अनुमति से तू जहाँ चाहे, वहाँ जा।" गुरु की इस आज्ञा को पाकर गालव अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हुआ और महातेजस्वी विश्वामित्र से मधुर वाणी में बोला — "हे गुरुदेव, आपकी सेवा के उपलक्ष्य में मैं आपको गुरुदक्षिणा में क्या अर्पण करूँ? हे सम्मान देने वाले, दक्षिणा से ही यज्ञ सफल होता है। दक्षिणा देने वाले को मोक्ष की प्राप्ति होती है। यह दक्षिणा ही स्वर्ग का फल है, शान्ति और तृप्ति का साक्षात् स्वरूप है। अतः मैं अपने गुरु के लिए क्या लाऊँ? कृपया बताइए।" महर्षि विश्वामित्र जानते थे कि गालव ने अपनी सेवा से उन्हें वास्तव में जीत लिया है। इसलिए वे बार-बार "जा, जा" कहकर उसे विदा करना चाहते थे। किन्तु बार-बार आज्ञा मिलने पर भी गालव यही पूछता रहा — "मैं क्या दूँ?" तपस्वी गालव का यह हठ देखकर विश्वामित्र के मन में थोड़ा क्रोध उत्पन्न हुआ और अन्त में उन्होंने कहा — "तो ला मेरे लिए आठ सौ ऐसे अश्व, जो चन्द्रमा की किरणों के समान श्वेत हों और जिनमें से प्रत्येक का एक कान काला हो। अब जा, हे गालव, विलम्ब मत कर।"
English Summary
TOYOGA PABYA —And saying this, he went away. And at those words of Dharma, Viswamitra divested of Kshatriyahood became endued with the atatus of a Brahmana and was filled with delight,1 And pleased as he was with the services and devotion of his disciple, the ascetic Qalava, Viswamitra addressed him and said,— 'With my leave, O Galava, go witherso- ever thou mayst wish.'— Thus commanded by his preceptor, Galava, highly pleased, said in a sweet voice unto Viswamitra of great effulgence, — 'What final gift shall I make thee in consequence of thy services as preceptor ? O giver of honours, It is in consequence of the (final) present that a sacrifice becometh successful. The giver of such gifts obtains emancipation. Indeed, these gifts constitute the fruit (that one enjoys in heaven). They are regarded as peace and tranquility personified. What, therefore, shall I procure for my preceptor ? Oh, let that be said' — The illustrious Viswamitra knew that he had really been con- quered by Galava by means of the latter's services, and the Rishi, therefore, sought to dismiss him by repeatedly saying, — 'Go, Go.' But though repeatedly commanded by Viswamitra to go away, Galava still addressed him saying, — 'What shall I give ?' — And seeing this obstinacy on the part of ascetic Galava. Viswamitra felt a slight rise of anger and at last said, — 'Give me eight hundred steeds, every one of which should be as white as the rays of the moon, and every one of which should have one ear black. Go, now, O Galava, and tarry not. — ' "
