कौन विवेकशील पुरुष ऐसे व्यक्ति को अपनी स्वीकृति देगा जो न्याय के नियमों का उल्लंघन करता हो? कौन विद्वान् ऐसा है जो अधर्म से प्राप्त विजय पर प्रसन्न हो — जैसा कि वह पापी वृकोदर, पाण्डु का पुत्र, प्रसन्न हो रहा है? इससे अधिक आश्चर्य की बात और क्या हो सकती है कि क्रोध में भीमसेन ने अपने पैर से मेरे मस्तक को स्पर्श किया, जबकि मैं टूटी हुई जंघाओं के साथ भूमि पर पड़ा था? हे सञ्जय, क्या वह व्यक्ति सम्मान के योग्य है जो किसी तेजस्वी, समृद्ध और मित्रों से घिरे पुरुष के साथ ऐसा आचरण करे? मेरे माता-पिता युद्ध के धर्म से अनभिज्ञ नहीं हैं। हे सञ्जय, मेरी आज्ञा से उन शोकाकुल माता-पिता को यह वचन सुनाओ — मैंने यज्ञ किए, अनेक सेवकों का भली-भाँति पालन किया, और समुद्र सहित समस्त पृथ्वी पर शासन किया। मैं अपने जीवित शत्रुओं के मस्तक पर पैर रखकर खड़ा रहा। मैंने अपने सामर्थ्य के अनुसार बन्धु-बान्धवों को धन दिया और मित्रों के लिए प्रिय कार्य किए। मैंने अपने समस्त शत्रुओं का सामना किया। मुझसे अधिक भाग्यशाली कौन है? मैंने शत्रु राज्यों में विजय-यात्राएँ कीं और राजाओं को दासों की भाँति आज्ञा दी। मैंने सदा उत्तम आचरण किया।
English Summary
What wise roan, again, is there that would accord his appro- bation to a person contravening the rules of fairness ? What learned man is there that would repice after having won victory by unright- eousness as that sinful wretch, viz, Vrikodara, the son of Pandu, rejoices? What can be more amazing than this, viz., that Bhimasena in wrath should with his foot touch the head of one like me while lying with my thighs broken ? Is that person. O Sanjaya, worthy of honour who behaveth thus towards a man possessed of glory endued with prosperity, living in the midst of friends ? My parents are not ignorant of the duties of battle. Instructed by me, O Sanjaya, tell them that are afflicted with grief these words : — I have performed sacrifices, supported a large number of servants properly, governed the whole earth with her seas ! I stayed on the heads of my living foes I I gave wealth to my kinsmen to the extent of my abilities, and I did what was agreeable to friends. I withstood all my foes. Who is there that is more fortunate than myself ? I have made progresses through hostile kingdoms and commanded kings as slaves. I bave acted handsomely
