व्यास ने कहा — तब श्रृञ्जय का वह पुत्र, जो अद्भुत तेज से युक्त था और कुबेर के पुत्र के समान प्रतीत होता था, प्रकट हुआ — वह बालक जिसे प्रसन्न ऋषि ने उस शोकाकुल पिता को प्रदान किया था। और राजा श्रृञ्जय अपने पुत्र से पुनः मिलकर अत्यन्त प्रसन्न हुए। उन्होंने अनेक पुण्यमय यज्ञ किए और उनकी समाप्ति पर प्रचुर दक्षिणा भी दी। श्रृञ्जय के पुत्र ने जीवन के प्रयोजनों को पूर्ण नहीं किया था। उसने न कोई यज्ञ किया था, न उसके कोई सन्तान थी। वह वीरता से रहित था और रणभूमि में नहीं, अपितु दीनतापूर्वक मृत्यु को प्राप्त हुआ था। इसी कारण उसे पुनः जीवन में लाया जा सका। किन्तु अभिमन्यु तो वीर और पराक्रमी था। उसने जीवन के प्रयोजनों को पूर्णतः सिद्ध किया। सुभद्रा के उस वीर पुत्र ने सहस्रों शत्रुओं को परास्त करके रणभूमि में वीरगति प्राप्त की और इस संसार से विदा ली।
English Summary
"Vyasa said, Then the son of Srinjaya, of wonderful splendour, appeared, that child resembling the son of Kuv era himself, bestowed by the gratified Rishi (on the bereaved father). And king Srinjaya, once more meeting with his son, became highly delighted. And he performed many meritorious sacrifices, giving away profuse sacrificial presents upon completion. Srinjaya's son had not fulfilled the purposes of his being. He had performed no sacrifice and had no children. Destitute of bravery, he had perished miserably and not in battle. It was for this reason that he could be brought back into life.1 As regards Abhimanyu, he was brave and heroic. He hath fulfilled the purposes of life, for the brave son of Subhadra, having blasted his foes by thousands, hath left the world, falling in the field of battle.
