वैशम्पायन ने कहा — (आगे) हे भारत, यह वैर निष्कारण है और तुम इसे अधिक समय तक निभा भी नहीं सकते। यदि इस दुःखदायी मार्ग को छोड़कर तुम अपना कल्याण कर सको, यदि हे शत्रुदमन, तुम अपने भाइयों, अनुयायियों और मन्त्रियों के पापमय और अपयशकारी कर्मों से मुक्त हो सको, तो हे पुरुषसिंह, हे भरतश्रेष्ठ, पाण्डु के उन पुत्रों से सन्धि कर लो जो महाबुद्धिमान, महापराक्रमी, महापरिश्रमी और महाविद्वान हैं, और जिन्होंने अपनी आत्मा को पूर्णतः वश में कर रखा है। ऐसा आचरण महाबुद्धिमान धृतराष्ट्र को, पितामह भीष्म को, द्रोण को, महात्मा कृप को, सोमदत्त को, विद्वान बाह्लीक को, अश्वत्थामा को, विकर्ण को, सञ्जय को, विविंशति को, और हे शत्रुदमन, तुम्हारे अनेक बन्धुओं तथा मित्रों को भी प्रिय और सुखकारी होगा। हे तात, उस सन्धि से सम्पूर्ण संसार को लाभ होगा। तुम विनम्र हो, कुलीन वंश में जन्मे हो, विद्वान हो और हृदय से दयालु हो। हे तात, हे भरतवंशियों में श्रेष्ठ, अपने पिता और माता की आज्ञा का पालन करो। जो पुत्र सच्चे अर्थों में सुपुत्र होते हैं, वे सदा उसी को हितकारी मानते हैं जो उनके पिता आज्ञा देते हैं। विपत्ति में पड़ने पर प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को यही स्मरण आता है।
English Summary
Vaisampayana continued, — (continued) It is, besides, causeless, while, again, th^u canst not, O Bharata, adhere to It long. If by avoiding this which is productive only of woe, thou wilt achieve thy own good, if, O chastiser of foes, thou wilt escape from the linful and disreputable deeds of thy brothers, followers, and counsellors, then, O tiger among men, make peace, O bull among the Bharatas, with the sons of Pandu who are all endued with great wisdom and great bravery with great exertion and great learning and all of whom have their souls under complete control. Such conduct will be agreeable to and conducive to the happiness of Dhritarashtra who is endued with great wisdom, of grandsire (Bhishma), Drona, the high-souled Kripa, Somadatta, wise Valhika, Aswatthaman, Vikarna, Sanjaya, Vivingsati, and of many of thy kinsmen, O chastiser of foes, and many of thy friends also. The whole world, O sire will derive benefit from that peace. Thou art endued with modesty, born in a noble race, hast learn- ing and kindness of heart. Be obedient, O sire, to the commands of thy father, and also of thy mother, O bull of Bharata's race. They that are good sons always regard that to be beneficial which their fathers command.
