गिरे हुए हाथियों, घोड़ों, मनुष्यों और रथों के शवों से कर्ण के रथ के मार्ग पर पृथ्वी पट गई। सत्य यह है कि न भीष्म ने, न द्रोण ने, और न तुम्हारी सेना के किसी अन्य योद्धा ने वैसे पराक्रम कभी दिखाए थे, जैसे उस युद्ध में कर्ण ने दिखाए। हे नरश्रेष्ठ, सूत-पुत्र ने हाथियों में, घोड़ों में, रथों में और मनुष्यों में — सभी में भारी संहार मचाया। जैसे सिंह हिरणों के झुंड में निर्भय होकर विचरता है, वैसे ही कर्ण पाञ्चालों के बीच निर्भय होकर विचरा। जैसे सिंह भयभीत हिरणों के झुंड को चारों दिशाओं में तितर-बितर कर देता है, वैसे ही कर्ण ने पाञ्चाल रथियों के समूहों को सब ओर खदेड़ दिया। जैसे सिंह के मुख के समीप आए हिरण जीवित नहीं बच सकते, वैसे ही कर्ण के निकट आए महारथी भी जीवित नहीं लौट सके। जैसे प्रज्वलित अग्नि के सम्पर्क में आने पर लोग अवश्य जल जाते हैं, वैसे ही हे भारत, श्रृञ्जय कर्ण-रूपी अग्नि के सम्पर्क में आकर भस्म हो गए। हे भारत, चेदि और पाञ्चाल वंश के अनेक योद्धा, जो वीर माने जाते थे, उस युद्ध में अकेले कर्ण द्वारा मारे गए — और कर्ण ने प्रत्येक बार अपना नाम लेकर ललकारते हुए उनसे युद्ध किया। कर्ण का पराक्रम देखकर।

With the fallen bodies of elephants and steeds and men and with fallen cars, the Earth became strewn along tha track of Kama's car. Indeed, neither Bhishma, nor Drona, nor any other warrior of thy army, had ever achieved such feats as were then achieved by Karna in that battle. Amongst elephants, amongst steeds, amongst cars and amongst men, the Suta's son caused a very great carnage, O tiger among men. As a lion is seen to career fearlessly among a herd of deer, even so Karna careered fearlessly among the Panchalas. As a lion routeth a herd of terrified deer to all points of the compass, even so Karna routed those throngs of Panchala cars to all sides.
