वैशम्पायन ने कहा — तब अपरिमित पराक्रमी अर्जुन ने पश्चिमी समुद्र के तट पर स्थित सभी पवित्र तीर्थों और पुण्यस्थलों के एक-एक करके दर्शन किए। विभत्सु प्रभास नामक पवित्र स्थान पर पहुँचे। जब अदृश्य रूप से विचरण करते हुए अर्जुन उस पवित्र और मनोरम स्थान पर आए, तो मधु के वधकर्ता श्रीकृष्ण को इसका समाचार मिला। माधव शीघ्र ही अपने मित्र कुन्ती-पुत्र से मिलने वहाँ आ पहुँचे। कृष्ण और अर्जुन मिले, एक-दूसरे को आलिंगन किया और परस्पर कुशल-क्षेम पूछा। वे दोनों प्रिय मित्र, जो वास्तव में पूर्वकाल के ऋषि नर और नारायण ही थे, वहाँ बैठ गए। वासुदेव ने अर्जुन की यात्रा के विषय में पूछा — हे पाण्डव, तुम पृथ्वी पर भ्रमण करते हुए सभी तीर्थों और पुण्यस्थलों के दर्शन क्यों कर रहे हो? तब अर्जुन ने उन्हें सब कुछ जो हुआ था, विस्तार से बताया। सब सुनकर वृष्णिकुल के उस महापराक्रमी वीर ने कहा — यह तो उचित ही हुआ। इसके पश्चात् कृष्ण और अर्जुन ने कुछ समय प्रभास में यथेच्छ विहार किया और फिर कुछ दिन वहाँ बिताने के लिए रैवतक पर्वत की ओर चल दिए। उनके पहुँचने से पूर्व ही श्रीकृष्ण की आज्ञा से अनेक शिल्पकारों ने उस पर्वत को भली-भाँति सुसज्जित कर दिया था। कृष्ण की आज्ञा से वहाँ प्रचुर मात्रा में भोजन-सामग्री भी एकत्र की गई थी। वहाँ संग्रहीत सभी वस्तुओं का उपभोग करते हुए अर्जुन वासुदेव के साथ बैठकर नट-नर्तकों का प्रदर्शन देखने लगे। तत्पश्चात् उस महात्मा पाण्डव ने उन सबको यथोचित सम्मान देकर विदा किया और एक सुसज्जित उत्तम शय्या पर विश्राम करने लगे। उस उत्तम शय्या पर लेटे हुए महाबाहु अर्जुन ने श्रीकृष्ण को उन पवित्र तीर्थों के विषय में सब कुछ विस्तार से बताया।

(Arjuna-vanavasa Parva continued) Vaisampayana said, — Then Arjuna of immeasurable prowess saw, one after another, all the sacred waters and other holy places that were on the shores of the western ocean. Vibhatsu reached the sacred spot called Probhasa. When the invisible Arjuna arrived at that sacred and delightful region, the slayer of Madhu (Krishna) heard of It. Madhava soon went there to see his friend the son of Kunti. Krishna and Arjuna met together and embracing each other enquired after each other's welfare. Those dear friends, who were none else than the Rishis Nara and Narayana of old, sat down. Vasudeva asked Arjuna about his travels, saying,— 'Why, O Pandava, art thou wandering over the Earth, beholding all the sacred waters and other holy places ?' Then Arjuna told him everything that had happened. Hearing ail, that mighty hero of Vrishni's race said, — This is as It should be. And Krishna and Arjuna having sported as they liked, for sometime at Probhasa, went to the Raivataka mountain to pass some days there. Before they arrived at Raivataka, that mountain had, at the command of Krishna, been well adorned by many artificers- Much food also had, at Krishna's command, been collected there. Enjoying everything that had been collected there for him, Arjuna sat with Vasudeva to see the perfor- mances of the actors and the dancers. Then the high-souled Pandava, dismissing them all with proper respect, laid himself down on a well- adorned and excellent bed.
