असंख्य कौवे आकाश से उतरकर मृत योद्धाओं के शवों पर बैठ गए। इस बीच अर्जुन अपने गाण्डीव से शत्रुओं का संहार करते रहे — ठीक वैसे जैसे महादेव पिनाक से असुरों का वध करते हैं। तत्पश्चात् वे तेजस्वी किरीटी, जो शत्रु-व्यूहों के विजेता थे, अपने प्रचण्ड धनुष से शत्रु-बाणों को विफल करते हुए, उत्तम अश्वों और हाथियों पर आरूढ़ कुरुवंश के अनेक श्रेष्ठ योद्धाओं को अपने बाणों से मार गिराते रहे। तब अनेक राजा भारी गदाएँ, लोहे के मुद्गर, तलवारें, भाले और अन्य अनेक प्रकार के शक्तिशाली अस्त्र उठाकर, भयंकर रूप धारण करके, उस युद्ध में पार्थ पर एकाएक टूट पड़े। तब अर्जुन ने अपने उस प्रचण्ड गाण्डीव को — जो इन्द्र के धनुष के समान था और जिसकी टंकार युगान्त में उमड़ते मेघों की गर्जना जैसी थी — अपनी भुजाओं से खींचकर, हँसते हुए, तुम्हारी सेना को भस्म करते और यमराज के राज्य की जनसंख्या बढ़ाते रहे। वे वीर उन क्रुद्ध योद्धाओं को — उनके रथों और हाथियों सहित, तथा उनके साथ लड़ने वाले पदाति और धनुर्धरों सहित — उनकी भुजाओं और प्राणों से वंचित करके यमलोक की जनसंख्या में वृद्धि करते रहे।
English Summary
Innumerable crows, alighting from the sky, perched on the bodies (of dead combatants). Meanwhile, Arjuna continued to slay the foe with his Gandiva, like Mahadeva slaying the Asuras with his Pinaka equipped with tawny string. * Then the illustrious Kiritin, that subjugator of (hostile) ranks, dispersing the shafts of the foe by means of his own formidable bow, slaughtered with his arrows many foremost ones among the Kurus, mounted on their fore- most of steeds and elephants. Then many kings, taking up heavy maces and clubs of iron and swords and darts and diverse other kinds of power- ful weapons, assuming terrible forms, rushed suddenly against Partha in that battle. Then Arjuna, bending with his arms his formidable bow Gandiva which resembled the bow of Indra himself and whose twang was as loud as the roar of the clouds congregating at the end of the Yuga, and laughing the while, went on consuming thy troops and increasing the population of Yama's kingdom. Indeed, that hero caused those enraged warriors with their cars and elephants and with the foot- soldiers and bowmen supporting them, to be deprived of their arms and lives and thus to swell the population of Yama's domain.1 "
