विसुदेव ने कहा — इस प्रकार सम्बोधित होने पर सूत-वंश के उस पुत्र ने बलवानों में श्रेष्ठ प्रद्युम्न को शीघ्रता से ये मधुर वचन कहे — "हे रुक्मिणी-पुत्र, युद्धभूमि में अश्वों को चलाने से मुझे कोई भय नहीं है, और युद्ध में वृष्णियों की परम्पराओं से भी मैं भली-भाँति परिचित हूँ। इसमें तनिक भी संशय नहीं। किन्तु हे दीर्घायु, सारथियों को यह शिक्षा दी जाती है कि रथ पर आरूढ़ योद्धा की रक्षा सारथि को सर्वप्रकार से करनी चाहिए। आप अत्यन्त पीड़ित हो गए थे। शाल्व के बाणों से आप बुरी तरह घायल हो गए थे। हे वीर, आप मूर्च्छित भी हो गए थे। इसीलिए मैं रणभूमि से हट गया था। किन्तु हे सात्वत-श्रेष्ठ, अब जब आप सहज ही चेतना को प्राप्त हो गए हैं, तो हे केशव-पुत्र, अश्व-संचालन में मेरी कुशलता का साक्षी बनिए। मैं दारुक का पुत्र हूँ और विधिपूर्वक प्रशिक्षित हूँ। अब मैं निर्भय होकर शाल्व की उस विख्यात व्यूह-रचना में प्रवेश करूँगा।"
English Summary
( Arjunabhigamana Parva continued) Visudeva continued, THUS addressed, the son of Suta race replied in haste unto Pradyumna, that foremost of all endued with strength, in these sweet words, 'O son of Rukmini, I fear not to guide the horses on the field of battle, and I am acquainted also with the cui« toms of the Vrishnis in war ! It is not otherwise in the least ! But, O thou blest with length of days, those that guide the car are taught that the warrior on the car is, by all means, to be protected by his charioteer! Thou wert also much afflicted ! Thou wert much wounded by the arrows shot by Salwa. Thou wert also deprived of thy senses, O hero I Therefore is It that I retired from the field.* But, O chief of the Satwatas, now that thou hast regained thy senses without much ado, do thou, O son of Kesava, witness my skill in guiding the horses ! I have been begotten by Daruka, and I have been duly trained ! I will now penetrate into the celebrated array of Salwa without fear I
