हे मूर्खों, जब जनार्दन मौन बैठे हैं तब तुम यह क्या कर रहे हो? उनके मन में क्या है, यह जाने बिना हम व्यर्थ ही क्रोध में गर्जना कर रहे हैं। महात्मा कृष्ण अपना अभिप्राय प्रकट करें। जो वे करना चाहते हैं, उसे शीघ्र सम्पन्न करो। हलायुध के इन ग्राह्य वचनों को सुनकर सभी ने "साधु! साधु!" कहकर प्रशंसा की और सब मौन हो गये। बुद्धिमान बलदेव के वचनों से शान्ति स्थापित होने पर सभी उस सभा में पुनः अपने-अपने आसन पर बैठ गये। तब शत्रुओं को दमन करने वाले राम ने वासुदेव से कहा — हे जनार्दन, तुम मौन होकर क्यों बैठे हो? हे अच्युत, तुम्हारे ही कारण पृथापुत्र का हमने स्वागत और सम्मान किया था। किन्तु प्रतीत होता है कि वह दुष्ट हमारे सम्मान के योग्य ही नहीं था। किसी कुलीन परिवार में जन्मा कौन ऐसा पुरुष है जो किसी के यहाँ भोजन करके उसी की थाली तोड़ दे? यदि कोई ऐसा सम्बन्ध स्थापित करना भी चाहे, तो जो सुख का अभिलाषी है, वह प्राप्त हुए सभी सत्कारों का स्मरण करके इतनी उतावली से कैसे कार्य कर सकता है? उस पाण्डव ने हमारा और तुम्हारा भी तिरस्कार करते हुए आज अपनी मृत्यु की कामना से सुभद्रा का अपहरण किया है। उसने मेरे मस्तक पर पाँव रखा है। हे गोविन्द, मैं इसे कैसे सह सकता हूँ? जैसे पैर से दबाया गया सर्प फुफकारता है, क्या मैं भी इसका प्रतिशोध न लूँ? आज मैं अकेला ही इस पृथ्वी को कौरवों से रहित कर दूँगा। अर्जुन के इस अपराध को मैं कदापि सहन नहीं करूँगा। तब वहाँ उपस्थित समस्त भोज, वृष्णि और अन्धक वीरों ने बलदेव के इन वचनों का अनुमोदन किया और नगाड़े तथा मेघों के समान गम्भीर गर्जना की। इस प्रकार आदि पर्व के सुभद्राहरण पर्व का दो सौ बाईसवाँ अध्याय समाप्त होता है।
English Summary
'Ye senseless men, what are ye doing, when Janardana sitteth silent ? Without knowing what is in his mind, vainly do we roar in wrath ! Let the high-souled Krishna give out what he proposeth. Accomplish promptly what he desireth to do !' Then all of them, hear- ing those words of Halayudha that deserved to be accepted, exclaimed, 'Excellent I* Excellent !' They then all became silent. Silence having been restored by the words of the intelligent Valadeva, they took their seats once more in that assembly. Then Rama, that oppressor of foes, spoke unto Vasudeva, saying. — 'Why, O Janardana, sittest thou, gazing silently ? O Achyuta. It was for thy sake that the son of Pritha had been welcomed and honoured by us ! It seemeth, however, that vile wretch deserved not our homage ! What man is there born of a respectable family that would break the plate after having dined from It ! Even if one desireth to contact such an alliance, yet remembering all the services he hath received, who is there, desirous of happiness, that acts so rashly ? That Pandava disregarding us and thee too, hath to-day outraged Subhadra.^desiring (to compass) his own death ! He hath placed his foot on the crown of my head. How shall I, O Govinda, tamely bear It ? Shall I not resent It, even like a snake that is trodden upon ? Alone shall I to-day make the Earth destitute of Kauravas ! Never shall I put up with this transgression by Arjuna.1 Then all the Bhojas, Vrishnis, and Andhakas, present there, approved of everything that Valadeva had said, deeply roaring like unto a kettle-drum or the clouds." Thus ends the two hundred and twenety-secomi section in the Subhadra-harana Parva of the Adi Parva.
