नीति के बल पर उस पुरुषसिंह ने शर्मकों और वर्मकों को वश में किया। फिर उस वीर ने विदेह-नरेश राजा जनक को भी अपेक्षाकृत सहजता से पराजित किया। तत्पश्चात् उस वीर ने उस प्रदेश में निवास करने वाले शकों और म्लेच्छों को भी रणनीति से अपने अधीन कर लिया। फिर पाण्डु-पुत्र ने विदेह से सेनाएँ भेजकर इन्द्र पर्वत के निकट रहने वाले किरातों के सात राजाओं को जीत लिया। तत्पश्चात् उस महाबली वीर ने युद्ध में सुह्मों और प्रसुह्मों को परास्त किया। उन्हें अपने पक्ष में करके महाबल कुन्ती-पुत्र ने मगध की ओर प्रस्थान किया। मार्ग में उसने दण्ड और दण्डधर नामक राजाओं को अपने अधीन किया। उन राजाओं को साथ लेकर पाण्डु-पुत्र गिरिव्रज की ओर बढ़ा। जरासन्ध के पुत्र को साम-नीति से वश में करके और उससे कर ग्रहण करके, वह वीर अपने अधीन किए हुए राजाओं सहित कंस के विरुद्ध चढ़ाई करने निकला। चतुरंगिणी सेना से पृथ्वी को कँपाते हुए पाण्डवश्रेष्ठ ने शत्रुघाती कर्ण का सामना किया। हे भारत, कर्ण को पराजित कर अपने अधीन करने के पश्चात् उस महावीर ने पर्वतीय प्रदेश के शक्तिशाली राजा को भी जीत लिया। तत्पश्चात् पाण्डु-पुत्र ने मदगिरि में निवास करने वाले उस महाबली राजा को भीषण युद्ध में भुजबल से मार डाला। हे राजन्, फिर उस पाण्डव ने युद्ध में उन बलशाली और पराक्रमी वीरों को — पुण्ड्र के वीर एवं महाबली राजा वासुदेव को तथा कौशिक-कच्छ में राज्य करने वाले राजा महौजस को — अपने अधीन किया और वंग के राजा पर आक्रमण किया।

And the hero then subjugated strategi- cally the Sakas and the barbarians living in that part of the country. And the son of Pandu, sending forth expeditions from Videha, conquered the seven kings of the Kiratas living about the Indra mountain. The mighty hero then, endued with abundant energyi vanquished in battle the Submas and the Prasuhmas. And winning them over to his side, the son of Kunti, possessed of great strength, marched against Magadha, On his way he subjugated the monarchs known by the names of Danda and Dandadhara. And accompanied by those monarchs, the son of Pandu marched against Girivraja. After bringing the son of Jarasandha under his sway by conciliation and making him pay tribute, the hero then accompanied by the monarchs he had vanquished, marched against Kansa. And making the earth tremble by means of his troops consist- ing of the four kinds of forces, the foremost of the Pandavas then encountered Kama that slayer of foes. And, O Bharata, having subjugated Kama and brought him under his sway, the mighty hero then vanquished the powerful king of the mountainous regions. And the son of Pandu then slew in a fierce encounter, by the strength of his arms, the mighty king who dwelt in Madagiri. And the Pandava then, O king, subjugated in battle those strong and brave heroes of fierce prowess, vfc., the heroic and mighty Vasudeva, the king of Pundra and king Mahaujah who reigned in Kausika-kachchha, and then attacked the king of Vanga.
