नारद ने कहा — यह जो नगरों में श्रेष्ठ नगर तुम देख रहे हो, जो देवराज इन्द्र की अमरावती के समान है, इसका नाम भोगवती है। इस पर नागराज वासुकि का शासन है। यहाँ वह शेष निवास करते हैं, जो अपनी उत्कृष्ट तपस्या के बल पर इस विशाल पृथ्वी को धारण करने में समर्थ हैं। उनका शरीर श्वेत पर्वत के समान है। वे दिव्य आभूषणों से विभूषित हैं। उनके सहस्र मस्तक हैं। उनकी जिह्वाएँ अग्निशिखाओं की भाँति प्रज्वलित हैं और वे महान् बल से सम्पन्न हैं। यहाँ सुरसा के पुत्र असंख्य नाग सुखपूर्वक निवास करते हैं — जो अनेक रूपों वाले हैं और विविध प्रकार के आभूषणों से अलंकृत हैं। उन पर मणि, स्वस्तिक, चक्र और कलश के चिह्न अंकित हैं। वे सभी महान् बलशाली हैं और स्वभाव से उग्र हैं। उनमें से कुछ के सहस्र मस्तक हैं, कुछ के पाँच सौ और कुछ के तीन। कुछ के दो मस्तक हैं, कुछ के पाँच और कुछ के सात मुख हैं।

''Narada said, — 'This foremost of cities that thou beholdest and which resembles the Amaravati of the chief of the celestials himself, is known by the name of Bhogavati. It is ruled over by Vasuki, the king of the Nagas. That Shesha dwelleth here, who, in consequence of hit ascetic austerities of the foremost order, is able to support this earth with all her vastness. His body is like that of a white mountain. He is decked in celestial ornaments. He hath a thousand heads. His tongues are blazing like flames of fire, and he is endued with great strength. There dwell in happiness innumerable Nagas — sons of Surasa— possessed of diverse forms, and decked in ornaments of diverse kinds, bearing the signs of gems, Swastika, circles and drinking vessels. All of them endued with great strength, are by nature fierce. Some have a thousand heads, some five hundred, and some three. And some have two heads, and some five, and some have seven faces.
